Martisorul (1 martie) - sarbatoare traditionala romaneasca a primaverii, a prospetimii, a bucuriei, a victoriei binelui impotriva raului. Cu aceasta ocazie femeile primesc mici cadouri, obiecte decorative (martisoare), legate cu un snur alb-rosu, ca simboluri aducatoare de noroc si bunastare. Rosul este considerat culoarea primaverii, iar albul culoarea iernii. Se asociaza de obicei flori timpurii de primavara, cea mai reprezentativa fiind ghiocelul.
Traditia sarbatorii are o vechime de mii de ani, primele dovezi arheologice datand din vremea Getilor. Originile obiceiului se gasesc si in sarbatorile romane in cinstea zeului Marte, zeu al fertilitatii si al vegetatiei sau in echivalentul acestora din Tracia, sarbatorile in cinstea zeului Marsyas Silen. Femeile dace purtau monezi sau pietricele asociate cu fire de lana rosii si albe pentru a avea noroc si un an productiv. Obiceiuri asemanatoare se pot intalni in zona Balcanilor, in Bulgaria unde se cheama Martenita (Мартеница), Macedonia, Albania. Martisorul este o traditie romaneasca veche de peste 8000 de ani. Cele mai vechi dovezi ale acestei sarbatori au fost descoperite de arheologi la Schela Cladovei, Mehedinti . Martisorul este format din doua snururi impletite asemenea ADN-ului. Rosul inseamna iubirea, iar albul divinitatea. Sarbatoarea Martisorului simbolizeaza renasterea vietii, reintoarcerea la viata. Exista cercetatori care cred ca e vorba despre reintoarcerea la viata dupa Potopul Biblic.
